From December 7th, 2017 to January 7th, 2018, Fort of Bard presents World Press Photo 6th edition. More than 140 extraordinary images and 12 videos of the digital storytelling contest winners are presented for the most important international recognition of photojournalism. They show and illustrate for one year the events of our time in newspapers from all over the world. A unique exhibition to admire, through today most important photographers’ eyes, the most sensational shoots denouncing, and emphasising the history of today.
80.408 pictures presented by 5.034 photographers from 126 countries. The jury of the prestigious contest awarded 45 photographers from 25 different countries: Australia, Brasil, Canada, Chile, China, Philippines, Finland, France, Germany, India, Iran, New Zealand, Pakistan, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Syria, Turkey, United States and Hungary.
Four Italian photographers have been awarded in the eight categories of the contest (spot news, overall news, current events, daily life, portraits, nature, sport and long-term plans): Giovanni Capriotti (category: sport, first prize), Antonio Gibotta, Agenzia Controluce (category: portraits, second prize), Alessio Romenzi (category: overall news, third prize) e Francesco Comello (category: daily life, third prize).
The photo of the year 2016 “An Assassination in Turkey”, taken from the Turkish photographer Burhan Ozbilici, member of the Associated Press, is part of this exhibition. Taken on December 19th it shows the shooter Mevlüt Mert Altıntaş after the assassination of the Russian ambassador Andrey Karlov during an opening in the Argalery of Ankara, in Turkey.
This photo also received the prize in category spot news. The exhibition presents 12 videos, winner of the 2017 Digital Storytelling Contest. This prize is awarded to the best type of visual journalism by the use of digital technologies.
