Forte di Bard presents “Sergio Larrain. Vagabondages”, an exhibition co-produced by Magnum Photos and Fondation Henri Cartier- Bresson, edited by Agnès Sire, the director of the Fondation Henri Cartier- Bresson. This is the first Italian retrospective dedicated to him.
The exhibition, located in the halls of the cellars (Cantine) of the Fort, is focused on the enigmatic figure of the Chilean photographer Sergio Larrain (1931-2012). Thanks to Magnum Agency we are able to enjoy his photos: 127 shots between 1950 and 1964 and belonging to the photographer’s largest production period, 4 drawings and 4 original writings, 5 magazines accompanied by 6 vintage shots, 4 books, as well as 2 movies. Born in Santiago de Chile in 1931, in 1978 Larrain decided to retire after many trips in the Chilean countryside. He wrote a lot to raise awareness and to encourage people to take action to improve the condition of mankind, which he considered really bad.Sergio Larrain had a keen eye; no link to conventions and his approach to photography was both social and poetic so to transform him into a brilliant photographer and a model for future generations. He has been a photographer moved by the interest for wandering and a deep desire to experience the world.
