Offers to schools

The main cultural centre of Aosta Valley offers to schools a wide range of workshops and educational activities. They can be modulated depending on school attitude and on children age.
Three permanent paths inside the majestic fortress, reachable through a walking distance and with three panoramic lifts free of charge, offering a breath-taking view of the Dora Baltea central valley. The Museum of the Alps is the heart of the cultural offer, a path made of thirty rooms to discover the alpine world that is perfect in terms of teaching. In addition to the Museum it is possible to join the path called The Children Alps, featuring a virtual ascent to the Mont Blanc, then the historic route of the Prisons and a range of photographic and art exhibitions of international aim.
Schools can also choose to join a guided tour of the Fortress in combination with permanent museums.

In Opera Mortai (picture) it has been set up a resting place and a welcome area both dedicated to schools, with a classroom for workshops, meetings and screenings.

SCHOLASTIC YEAR 2014 — 2015

Fortress of Bard Association offers different educational workshops accordingly to different schools. School educational workshops are available from Tuesday to Friday, both in the morning and in the afternoon. A renewed and stronger offer. The kind of the educational class, its aims, the duration of the visit and the workshop activity has been designed to suit the specific age of each group and accordingly to teachers’ needs.

Rates refer to groups with a maximum of 25 students and they do not include the entrance ticket to the Museum of the Alps or the Prisons.

NURSERY SCHOOL

On stage with the Dahu (3-5 years)
At the beginning of the path children encounter the mythical Dahu: a legendary animal, a symbol of the slope and its ability to adapt itself. The operator presents and recounts his adventures. The tour continues searching for Dahu’s friends: they adapted themselves to live in the slope. This is an opportunity to discover animals and plants, as well as the water flow, from the mountains to the sea.
Also available in French.
Activities in the classroom teaching:
animated reading of the history of Dahu and construction of puppets (friends of the Dahu) and characters from the animated story.

Animals in the game ( 3-5 years)
Let’s find out the animals that live in the Alps, their features and small curiosities affecting them. After it, a gambling activity that will be carried out indoors or outdoors depending on the weather.

Up and down the Alps (3-5 years)
A journey to discover places of the Alps by closely observing animals, habitats and typical houses of the mountains.
Activities in the classroom:
through a decorated big book we discover some stories and legends typical of many areas in the Alps. Here we meet fantastic characters who accompany us on this journey and teach us some simple words in the dialects of the places ideally visited.

Let’s conquer the Fort (3-5 years)
The tour begins with panoramic elevators through which you can you look closely at the fortress and the grandeur of its walls. Then you move inside the Prisons of the Fort where you look at the architectural evolution of the fortress through videos and panels and you discover Napoleon Bonaparte.
Activities in the classroom:
reading the siege of the Fortress through animated puppets and later you manufacture a product.

SPECIAL PROJECTS FOR CHILDREN

The mountain between colour and music (3-5 years)
Every first and third Wednesday of the month
This classroom is dedicated to classes with non-disabled and disabled students or to educational services to persons with disabilities in the territory. The course is designed to ensure to persons with disabilities the enjoyment of the Museum of the Alps. It offers people with disabilities a related laboratory with an area rich emotional and cognitive learning. The goal is to promote within the group a good level of integration of people with disabilities through a particularly emotional without performance requirements, ensuring a good level of satisfaction and self-esteem. The project is carried out by the operators of assisted Dealership Education Center ( CEA) .

 

PRIMARY SCHOOL

The flying eagle ( 6-7-8 years)
An exploration of the queen of the Alps: the Eagle! Together we discover all the secrets life of this beautiful animal, its environment, its power and above all we try to imagine how it sees the mountains during the flight: a beautiful aerial view of the Alps.
Activities in the classroom:
In the classroom, the operator divides the class into groups which will have to make the shape of an eagle and decorate it with different types of materials.

Play and work in the mountains (6 to 10 years)
How did your grandparents play? And what kind of job did they do? A path that allows us to know more about the games and the crafts of the past. From the observation of the objects and the videos in the Museum you can make a comparison to find similarities and differences with games and crafts from today.

The activity is different, depending on the age of the children:
— Creation of kites through cards, markers and different materials. (6-7 years)
— Creation of a book with illustrations and insights given by the operator. (8-9-10 years)

Let’s climb the mountain ( 8-9-10 years)
In the first part the young explorers discover the issues of the altitude, fauna, flora, weather, glacier and orogeny. The group discovers the climbing activity and the individual items of the early alpine climber.
Activities next to the Museum of the Alps: the class is accompanied by the operator in the «Children Alps». Divided into groups, they face a path to know the alpinist equipment and to understand the difficulties that can be encountered in the mountains (eg. rifts, crossing a ridge…).

Journey through the Alps ( 6-7-8-9-10 years)
The course is aimed at studying the evolution of languages ​​and dialects. Through games the student becomes a traveller and he discovers the different cultures that inhabit the Alps.
Activities in the classroom teaching:
The laboratory is divided into stages that cross an imaginary journey in the most scenic locations in the Alps. For each of the cards are dealt — game that kids draw after listening to a reading theme that helps them to understand the richness of the diversity of dialects in the Alps .
Duration: Museum of the Alps 90 min. — Classroom teaching 120 min.

Let’s play in the Fortress ( 8-9-10 years)
The tour begins with panoramic elevators through which you can you look closely at the fortress and the grandeur of its walls. Then you move inside the Prisons of the Fort where you look at the architectural evolution of the fortress through videos and panels.
Activities in the classroom teaching:
The activity is a real Game of the Goose with questions, activities, graphic trials related to the Fort and its history. The class is divided into groups. Each one will have to contend for the win by correctly answering question, trying to avoid penalties and pitfalls.

Water and nature; water and man (9-10 years)
The children will be accompanied in the Museum halls, whose main theme is water in all its states. The course allows you to learn about the water cycle, the flora and the fauna of ponds and lakes, the alpine forms of the territory, the glacier as a store of fresh water and water-related human activities.
Activities in the classroom teaching:
Children are divided into several groups will be given further information and illustrations related to the topics covered during the visit to the Museum of the Alps. The groups will create a notebook reworking the information acquired.

The mountain and the man (9-10 years)
The course is aimed at the study of the relationship between man and nature. The group will meet the stars of the Alpine animal and plant world orogeny and it includes the action of the glacier, it observes the types of the houses and the work of man.
Activities in the classroom teaching:
Drawing on the results of the route in the museum, the students imagine their park or nature reserve and they implement it, with the help of images provided by the operator by means of a graphic and pictorial composition and writing.

Let’s climb the mountain ( 11 — 13 years)

divided into groups , children must design their ideal and impregnable fortress , with the help of graphic material proposed by the operator. At the end of the group exposes the elaborate to the whole class and justify the strategic choices made. The final evaluation of the operator decreed the winning project.

SECONDARY SCHOOLS

The Modern Alps (14-18 years)
Does the natural landscape exist? What is the future for the mountain from today? Depopulation and abandonment or over-exploitation in favour of mass tourism ? The group is asked to observe a guided analysis through sheets entirely dedicated to the reality of the Alps from today.
Activities in classroom teaching:
Students should give rise to a debate in which they exchange ideas and feelings, trying to find a solution for the harmonious development of the Alps.
