Feeding the World, the global food challenge
On a planet capable of producing enough food to feed 10 billion people, hunger affects millions of people worldwide. This is the paradox of our time: while entire populations face deprivation, in developed countries abundance too often turns into systemic waste and diseases-linked to overconsumption. Food has become a marker of inequality, shifting from a fundamental right to a symbol of social status. The exhibition Feeding the World. The Global Food Challenge, presented by Fort Bard in collaboration with Agence France-Presse, brings together more than eighty photographs to explore the complexities of a fragile global system – one increasingly strained by population growth, climate change and the unsustainable use of natural resources. Producing more is no longer enough. What is urgently needed is a profound rethinking of how food is grown, distributed and consumed.
From the environmental impact of intensive livestock farming – among the leading sources of greenhouse gas emissions – to the rise of vegan culture and emerging food frontiers such as synthetic and functional foods, the exhibition examines the tensions between tradition and innovation. It invites visitors to reflect on a global challenge that concerns us all and on a crucial priority for the future: investing in equity and sustainability.
Following Time’s Up (2024) and Contrasts. Stories from a World on the Edge (2025), this new project marks the continuation of the collaboration between Fort Bard and Agence France-Presse. The partnership aims to raise public awareness of major global issues while showcasing the daily investigative work of the photojournalists of one of the world’s leading international news agencies.
