Bird photographer of the Year 2025

In progress: 25/10/2025 – 01/03/2026

Fort Bard once again hosts outstanding wildlife photography with a brand-new project presented in Italy for the first time: Bird Photographer of the Year, the renowned international competition that celebrates the best photographs of birds across twelve categories: Young photographers (11 and under / 12–14 / 15–17), Best Portrait, Bird Behaviour, Birds in Flight, Birds in the Environment, Black and White, Conservation Award, Conservation Documentary, Creative Perspectives, Portfolio, Urban Birds, and Video.

The 2025 edition, marking the competition’s tenth anniversary, will make its debut in Italy and Europe at the Forte di Bard from 25 October 2025 to 1 March 2026. Bird Photographer of the Year celebrates the beauty and diversity of the avian world through the extraordinary power of photography. Photographers from all over the world took part in the contest, submitting more than 33,000 images, with a grand prize of £3,500.

Two Italian photographers were among the winners: Francesco Guffanti, with the image Angel or Demon taken in Valle d’Aosta, depicting a golden eagle feeding on a red deer carcass, which won first prize in the Bird Behaviour category; Philippe Egger, with Art Photography, featuring a common kingfisher in a striking flight over a work of art, which won first prize in the Creative Perspectives category.
