Summer 2025

The ticket office closes one hour earlier

Forte di Bard has the following opening hours for the 2025 summer season:
From July 28th to September 7th, open daily, including Mondays: 10:00 am – 7:00 pm.

From September 8th, the usual Monday closing time will be restored.

Groups must make a reservation, even without purchasing the guided tour service.

On busy days, backpack storage may not be available in the secure areas inside the Fort.

Concessions

Reduced rates apply to:

  • Visitors over 65
  • University atudents with valid student ID
  • Groups: Reduced ticket for groups of 12 or more;
  • one free ticket for every 20 paying visitors
  • Special reduced rate of €6.00 ​​for 19-25 year-olds

The following are entitled to free admission:

  • 0-18 age group
  • disabled people and companion (only for disabled people with certified need for accompaniment)
  • tourist guides (with a valid ID)
  • Journalists with a valid press card are permitted only for professional reasons (not for personal reasons) and must submit a prior accreditation request Monday through Friday to ufficiostampa@fortedibard.it.
    Authorization from the Press Office must be requested at least two days in advance.

Access, map and parking

How to get there

Car

If you are coming from the direction of Turin you will find Fort Bard positioned on a high rocky spur at the entrance into the Valle d’Aosta (78 km from Turin and 48 km from the City of Aosta’s halfway between Milano and Geneva). Fort Bard is accessible by car taking the Valle d’Aosta’s state road (SS. 26), or by motorway (A5) with exit points at Pont-Saint-Martin to the south and Verrès to the north (6 km and 9 km respectively from Bard).

By train

The nearest train station is Hone-Bard Station, 500m from the fortress.
From 3 January 2024 to 31 December 2026 a replacement bus service is active for the electrification works on the Ivrea-Aosta railway.

On foot along the Via Francigena

Fort Bard is located long the ancient Via Francigena route that join Canterbury to Rome in the Middle Ages. The route crosses the entire Aosta valley, from Gran San Bernardo to Point-Saint-Martin village, then it continues in the Canavese towards Ivrea.

Parking 0 Multi-level at the foot of the Bard Fort (paid)

  • Daytime rate Monday to Friday: 8:00 a.m.-7:30 p.m. €3.00
  • Daytime rate Saturday, Sunday, and holidays; weekdays and holidays in August: 8:00 a.m.-7:30 p.m. €4.00
  • Evening rate 7:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m. €1.00
  • Nighttime rate 12:30 a.m.-8:00 a.m. €1.00
  • Free fare: for disabled visitors with a valid badge (present at the Infopoint)

Parking 1 Liéron, about 300 meters from the Fort along the SS.26 (free)

The Fort can be reached on foot from San Giovanni along an easy path through the chestnut woods.

The Fort can be easily reached on foot from the free parking lots located in the town of Hône in just a few minutes.

Free Shuttles

Only parking lots 0, 1, 2, and 3 in the municipality of Bard are served by a shuttle to the Fort (Sundays and holidays).

Dogs allowed

Regolamento:

  1. Medium and large-sized dogs are only permitted in non-exhibition areas and must be kept on a leash. They are not permitted in exhibition spaces, out of respect for other visitors and to ensure the safety of people, artworks, and displays.
  2. Small dogs are permitted in the Museums, but only if carried in a carrier. They are not permitted to roam the museum grounds under any circumstances.
  3. Dogs of any kind are not permitted at temporary exhibitions.
  4. Access to the elevators is permitted only to dogs on a leash and wearing a muzzle, and at the sole discretion of the Forte di Bard staff in the event of heavy crowds.
  5. Dogs are permitted in the Cafeteria, Restaurant, and Bookshop only if kept on a leash.
  6. Under no circumstances should dogs be left unattended, and their waste must be removed by their owners using the bag dispensers located along the walkways and in Piazza di Gola. Liquid waste must be washed away with water (use a special bottle).
  7. Dogs are not permitted at events (conferences, concerts, theatrical performances).

Services

The Bard Fort is equipped with the most modern visitor services and has the infrastructure to offer high-quality standards. All spaces are air-conditioned and heated. Groups and schools can book a guided tour of the Fort, as well as cultural mediators for educational activities.

The toilets adjacent to the Gola Cafeteria and the Cannoniere have a changing table.

Defibrillator

Forte di Bard is equipped with a defibrillator to deal with complex first aid situations.

Smoking area

Dedicated smoking areas: in the space in front of the panoramic elevator departure building and in the designated area inside Piazza di Gola.

Espace Vallée Culture

The Fort hosts – in the Opera Carlo Alberto – a centre for the presentation and promotion of the Aosta Valley region called Espace Vallée Culture.

InfoLounge

The first floor of the Reception building is dedicated to promoting the tourism, culture, environment, and food and wine of the Aosta Valley.

Guided tours of the Fort

Guided tours of the fortress depart every Saturday and Sunday at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Service available daily from July 28 to September 7, 2025.
Historical tour of the fortress lasting 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Accessibility

Accessibility for motor-impaired people

The Bard Fortress is barrier-free, and each level is accessible via elevators or pedestrian walkways equipped with ramps. Access is possible for people with disabilities, wheelchairs, and strollers.

A wheelchair is available upon request for visitors with mobility difficulties to facilitate their visit to the exhibition spaces. Please contact us in advance at +39 0125 833818.

Tactile path for the blind or visually impaired

To learn about the history of the monumental site, blind visitors can consult three totems with Braille descriptions and relief maps, located in an easily accessible area on the second floor of the multi-story car park.

Models of the Fort are also available at the various works.
