Davide Camisasca. White Lands

Finished: 31/05/2024 – 28/09/2025

The topic-oriented events promoted by Fort Bard and dedicated entirely to the mountains, their inhabitants and the artists that depict them, are joined by a new entry. From 31 May 2024, Fort Bard will pay tribute to Davide Camisasca with a major retrospective exhibition held in the Alloggiamenti (Living Quarters) exhibit area of the Museum of the Alps. Camisasca, a photographer and mountain guide, was born in Milan but has lived for over fifty years in Gressoney-Saint-Jean, at the foot of Monte Rosa. The exhibition, entitled Terre bianche (White Lands) , documents the artist’s extensive work and research in the field of mountain photography and reportage.

The exhibition explores the themes closest to the artist’s heart – those that have defined his entire body of work, covering a timeframe from the 1980s (with the shot Monte Rosa, intersecting ski tracks at Felik Pass, 1985) to the ‘abstract’ panoramic shots of snowy white landscapes (Rope teams at Felik Pass) dotted with tiny figures climbing in rope teams, dating from 2017-2018. While most of the images on display are of the Mt. Rosa massif, where Camisasca has made his home and which he has explored and photographed all his life,  the exhibition also features spectacular and pretty dramatic high-contrast B&W views of Mont Blanc as well as reportage photography from the distant lands of Mustang and Tibet, showing the people who live there, the sacred sites and boundless horizons.

The exhibition will be open until 28 September, 2025.
